Hi Everyone,
We can all agree that another lockdown is not ideal. We are all feeling worried about keeping ourselves occupied during another period of time at home.
What I will start off by saying, is that in some cultures across the world, a crisis is seen as an “opportunity”. And so, people are encouraged to see the positives they can take from a situation. To apply this to the previous lockdowns, how many of us had come across Zoom before 2020? Yet now we’re using it for everything – virtual family gatherings, birthday parties, business meetings, interviews and virtual meetings with friends.

Hands up who blew out their birthday candles via zoom in the last few months? *raises hand*
Let’s look at 5 ways to keep our mind healthy:
Numero Uno: Fresh Air.
Fresh air, sunshine (albeit chilly sunshine) and a bit of exercise will be vital over the next few weeks. The streets will be much quieter, and so if you’re a bit nervous or self-conscious about going out and exercising in public then it will be much easier without the noise of heavy traffic, and social distancing can be maintained better. Take your headphones and go for a short stroll around the block.

As well as these reasons, you will also get the adrenaline flowing, a boost of serotonin to put you in a better mood and best of all, you’ve been productive!
Two: Daily Routine.
You may
have done this last year if you’ve been working from home, but keep to the same
daily routine. It’s important to keep things as normal as possible. Do your
usual thing of setting your alarm for the same time, showering/bathing,
brushing your teeth and applying makeup, hair gel or anything else that you
would normally do. Your mind uses this rhythm to get fired up for the day and
so if there’s any signs of your normal routine falling out of place, you may
find that your brain isn’t as sharp as usual.
Of course,
you may not feel as motivated to do your full routine, especially if your
friends don’t mind you appearing on zoom in your pjs and with no makeup. But following
your daily routine will help to provide that sense of normality and achievement
which your mind will be craving, and it can help with conditions like depression.
Three: Good Diet.
Drink water, eat fruit and veg. By all means save your favourite treat for a reward after any nervy work meetings during the day or get some popcorn in for a movie tonight.

Four: Friends and Family.
As mentioned earlier, we’re all getting used to family gatherings or meeting friends via video call. Isolation and being so distant from our loved ones can put a strain on our wellbeing. We’d advise scheduling regular virtual meetings with family and friends. Perhaps schedule meetings for every evening after your favourite television program, to give you something to look forward to after your final work video call of the day.

Five: Watch that DVD, Read that Book.
I’m sure you did plenty of this during the previous lockdowns, but books, movies, sitcoms and video games are a great way to wind down, escape from reality and even educate yourself further. Treat yourself to that film you’ve wanted to see for ages. Reread that book that you’ve read 1000 times. Watch a new sitcom online.
