Hello! And Happy New Year from Stridi.
This will just be a short piece to check in and provide some guidance for the year ahead. As much as the whole concept of “resolutions” are a bit cliché, new years do provide an opportunity for new ideas and progress. We’ve left behind a year that we can all agree was not ideal. But that year is over now. So, let’s look ahead to what we can achieve in 2021!

Get That Grade:
Whether you’re in your final year at uni or halfway through your first, your grades are important. In first year, you can get a taste for the work load that uni can offer and test yourself to see what grades you can target in the coming years. Top tip: there is always room for improvement, and your tutors are there to guide you. If you have made it to uni in the first place then you are clearly a bright, talented person. The sky is the limit.
In third year, I cannot emphasise enough how important your tutors and lecturers are. They are there to share their expertise with you. Request meetings with them, email them drafts of your assignments, make them your friend. Build a bond with them. Share with them the grade that you want to achieve and ask their advice as to what steps you will need to take to achieve it.

Make New Friends:
I know that we’ve covered similar topics in the past, and so I will try not to repeat myself. But the opportunities are endless for meeting new people at university. For the time being, human contact is pretty limited but that will not last forever. Sports teams, debating societies, chess club, whatever your interests are, you will meet likeminded people at university. There will likely be a club or society that piques your interest.
Bond with your flat mates. This will always be an important one, but during the times when meeting other people is limited, finding ways to bond with your household will make uni more enjoyable. Have movie nights, pizza nights, organizing a house meal or a house gaming session will be beneficial in improving the overall mood in your flat.
Find a new hobby:
You’d be surprised what will interest you if you give new things a try. Some people exercise simply for the serotonin boost afterwards. Some people watch films or read books for escapism. A new hobby doesn’t necessarily have to take over your life, but finding something you can gain enjoyment out of, that might improve your mood and fill a few hours on a Sunday afternoon will help to broaden your horizons and give you a bit more fulfilment in your life.
